										<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="color: #000080;"><a style="color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;" href="https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/video-mute/id820647150?mt=8" target="_blank" class="broken_link">Video Mute App</a></span></span> works with Android or Apple, but the <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="color: #000080;"><a style="color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;" href="https://spliceapp.com/" target="_blank">Splice App</a></span></span> currently only works with Apple. I love both of the apps and will share more information below.</p>
<p>Both of these videos were shot and edited on my iPhone 6 Plus. I was amazed at how easy they were to shoot, produce and upload to YouTube as well as Facebook and Instagram.</p>

<p>The Video Mute App makes it easy to take out the audio in a video. I shoot the footage, pull it into the app and export it with NO audio. It&#8217;s truly that easy.</p>
<p>After using the Video Mute App to strip out the audio, I open up the Splice App, pull in the video, choose built in music, name the video and watch it. It&#8217;s easy to pull in multiple clips. It&#8217;s also easy to figure out how to make changes. I&#8217;m not big on reading a ton of text and I have found the Splice App to be crazy user friendly. Once I have the video finished which only takes a matter of minutes, I can then easily export it to YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, etc.</p>
<p>Keep in mind that videos take up more space than pictures, so I&#8217;m finding that my 16GB iPhone 6 Plus is not going to cut it long term. My plan is to upgrade to a 64GB model.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m having a crazy amount of fun with these two apps. So what&#8217;s the value of your services?</p>
<p>Peter Hurley in Manhattan consistently gets $1,200 for a headshot. That&#8217;s more than he could command in a small town in Eastern North Carolina. However, I&#8217;m sure that there are others in New York that charge far less. Peter has determined that his headshot services are worth $1,200 minimum. The nice thing for him is that there is a market willing to pay his asking price.</p>
<p>Locally, I had a veteran professional photographer and cinematographer tell me back in 2013 that he had done the math and figured out that he could not go on location for less than $2,500 per day or he was losing money. That may not be the case for every photographer in the local area. However, this particular photographer is a veteran of the industry and had figured out what his minimum day rate needed to be. Do you know what your minimum day rate is based on actually crunching the numbers and not just randomly picking a number out because it sounds good?</p>
<p>A friend of mine knows a photographer that works full time, has some nice camera gear and only charges $60 for a family photo session. Even part-time and having another job, the $60 rate will not yield enough revenue anytime soon to buy new gear. Her mentality is that her target market can only afford $60. It&#8217;s up to her, but I think she might be better off donating her services to the less fortunate and targeting families that can afford to pay more.</p>
<p>Determining what your photography services are worth includes factoring in what the market will bear. For example, the Raleigh market is not a hotspot for $1,200 headshots. However, there may be a handful that will pay that price point. On the other hand, the Raleigh market will bear a $2,500 per day photographer. And of course, if your pricing is rock bottom at $60 per family, there will always be people willing to pay low prices.</p>
<p>Whatever you do, don&#8217;t under value your services and put a black eye on the photography industry because of your super low prices. It&#8217;s OK to make a profit and a comfortable living doing photography. Decide that you are worth more than the lowest priced photographer in town, charge what the market will bear and actually make a good living doing what you love. If you do photography on the side, there is nothing wrong with pricing at a fair market value rather than &#8220;I&#8217;m a part-time photographer. <p>I wish that I could say that you&#8217;d get your money back as soon as you join. That may or may not happen. For me, I got enough business as a visitor to pay for my membership and have money left over.</p>
<p>As of this post, I am currently a member of a BNI group. That may or may not change, but one thing is for sure, the membership continues to pay for itself.</p>
<p>BNI is an exclusive seat, referral based, paid membership organization. What that means is that NO other photographer that does what you do can be in the group once you have been accepted to fill the available seat which also requires paying for a membership.</p>
<p>As a photographer or whatever field you are in, you should visit groups in your area to find a fit for you and your business. <p><span style="color: #000000;"><strong>Are You Ready To Be An Event Photographer?</strong></span><br />
No matter what type of event photography you do, experience will be your best teacher. Experience shooting multiple events in multiple venue settings will either help you become better over time or get you so frustrated that you will want to throw your hands up. Hopefully, you will become better and not give up.</p>
<p>Event photography is not the easiest type of photography, but it can be very rewarding. For me, it&#8217;s the most physically demanding photography that I do because of being constantly on the move and hauling around lots of gear. However, I get to travel and shoot in a lot of really nice and often times, very interesting venues.</p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;"><strong>The Best Way To Be Better Prepared To Transition Into Event Photography:</strong></span><br />
Don&#8217;t just assume that because you understand camera settings and can do one style of photography that it will translate into the event photography world. It will help, but assisting another photographer, being a 2nd shooter or volunteering to shoot smaller events or a friends weddings will likely help you get to the next level the fastest. Don&#8217;t be too quick to be the lead photographer if you have never shot an event before. It&#8217;s not fair to your client to just wing it because events can throw things at you fast which I will go into more below.</p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;"><strong>Some Of The Challenges Of Event Photography</strong></span><br />
Light is one of the top challenges of event photography. I have done numerous corporate events that I challenged my knowledge of understanding light and camera settings. You&#8217;ll want to make sure you have skills in both strobe lighting and low light room lighting which is why experience matters. This is also why it is important to assistant another photographer and/or be a second shooter rather than be thrown in the fire of event photography.</p>
<p>The pace and size of an event can also be a challenge. Depending on how many people are attending, how large the venue is, whether activities are going on simultaneous, etc. will all factor in to how you get the shots and deliver what the client had hoped for.</p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;"><strong>Planning Ahead Will Help Your Event Photography</strong></span><br />
Meeting with or emailing back and forth (pending the type of event) can make a big difference in being ready for an event. Ask questions like timelines (run of show), any specific needs, can you use a flash or not, the venue set up, etc. Although I don&#8217;t have a specific checklist typed out, experience has taught me to gather information in advance to help things flow better for me during the event. However, there will be unexpected things happen last minute which is just part of the event photography world.</p>
<p>If the venue is local to you and you can scope it out in advance, that will likely prove very helpful. If it is not local to you, you can likely find images online from the venue source and/or images that both consumers and professionals have posted online.</p>
<p><span style="color: #000000;"><strong>Have Fun</strong></span><br />
Although some of the things I have said above may sound to serious and business focused, events can be a lot of fun to shoot. <p>The Canon EOS-1DX Mark II has officially been announced as of February 2nd, 2016. It is currently available for <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><span style="color: #000080;"><strong><a style="color: #000080; text-decoration: underline;" href="http://www.adorama.com/ICA1DXM2.html" target="_blank" class="broken_link">Pre-Order at Adorama</a></strong></span></span> for <span style="color: #000000;"><strong>$5,999</strong></span>. Canon starts shipping the EOS-1DX Mark II out on April 15th, 2016.</p>
<p>I have included two videos in this post after the two paragraphs of text that I&#8217;ve written below about the Canon EOS-1DX Mark II.</p>
<p>I have shot with the EOS-1DX (courtesy of Canon) and didn&#8217;t really notice a difference in image quality from my Canon 5D Mark III. However, there are some things that I like about the EOS-1DX Mark II. It has improved auto focus, expanded ISO, better image quality in low light (hope it beats the 5D Mark III), 4K video and a headphone jack (which I think was stupid to leave out a headphone jack on the first 1DX). It still does not have built in Wi-Fi. I think Canon needs to get it together in 2016 and have that included rather than a separate gear purchase to use Wi-Fi. <p>I am a Canon shooter, full time professional photographer and Canon Platinum CPS member. I said that to say that I try not to say things about Nikon, Sony or Canon to put one above the other. At the end of the day, it&#8217;s a personal choice in brand and who is behind the camera. For example, a friend of mine is forever saying that Sony is 2 years ahead of Canon in technology. However, there are things that the Canon EOS-1DX Mark II will do that NO Sony can do and I&#8217;m sure that the roles can be reversed depending the shooting situation. I don&#8217;t think there is a Canon, Sony or Nikon that will be 100% perfect for every imaginable shooting situation. It does seem to me that Canon caters very much to the professional photography community. The Canon EOS-1DX Mark II is geared toward professionals and full time pros or those with $6K laying around to buy a camera are likely the ones that will purchase this camera.</p>
