I recently covered a corporate event in Charlotte, North Carolina and wanted to share a few images in this post as well as provide a few additional details that may help you in your search for a corporate focused professional photographer covering the Charlotte area.

Although I am based in Raleigh, NC, I do shoot around the country and internationally. My Charlotte number is 704.918.1522 if you’d like to discuss your upcoming event. My rates are the same within a 3 hour radius of Raleigh for corporate events and on location corporate headshots for 10 or more people. In addition, I do have a friend who is a Charlotte based Professional Photographer should he be a better fit for you. Either way, I can help you get your corporate event covered and provide you with the information you need as it relates to photography coverage.

Corporate event photography is a core part of my business. I don’t do consumer events like weddings. If you are looking for a professional photographer that truly specializes in corporate photography including headshots, commercial, events and more, please include me in your RFP process. You can call my Charlotte number in the previous paragraph or click to visit my online form.

Below you will see several images from the Corporate Event that I covered inside the Marriott City Center Charlotte. If you would like to see more of my portfolio, you may visit my corporate events page.

When I go out on client shoots, I take images in the RAW format instead of just capturing to JPEG format. The RAW image format takes up a lot of disk space, but it’s worthwhile because you have a greater ability to edit images after the fact.

Images are Uncompressed

Many lower-end digital cameras only capture images directly to JPEG format. The problem with JPEG images is that they use “lossy” compression. In plain English, this means that the processor lowers image quality to make the file smaller. Each time you edit and save a JPEG image, the quality is further degraded (although only a tiny bit). By saving the RAW image, you preserve the highest level of image integrity throughout the editing process.

Ability to Correct Brightness and White Balance

One thing that you can’t do with a JPEG image after the fact is adjust exposure levels of images. Sure, you can use Photoshop filters, but RAW images allow you to make finer adjustments because of the information stored in the file. This gives you a wider margin of error when it comes to over- and under-exposed images.

Improved Color Quality

In addition to brightness and lighting, the RAW format records better color profile data than the JPEG format does. The technical details of how this works are a bit involved—but the bottom line is that shooting in the RAW format improves the quality of the end product by capturing more accurate and precise colors.

Because RAW files are unprocessed, you can’t post them to the web or print them directly from your camera like you can with a JPEG file. They also take up a lot more space. I buy huge memory cards and drives for the extra space because I know that I’ll need it. But I know that things happen fast at live events and I don’t always have a lot of time to maneuver. That’s why I consider it vital to capture lots of images and keep them in a format where I know I’ll be able to make the adjustments I need.

The bottom line is that while RAW format may not be vital for amateur or hobbyist photographers, I believe it is a must for anyone who shoots professionally. I also know that not all professionals will agree with that for logical reasons.

The post 3 Advantages of Capturing RAW Images first appeared on .

A fellow photographer friend of mine, Kevin Seifert, recently gave me the nickname “The Closer.” My assumption is that it stemmed from my ability to turn a lot of the inquiries that I get into paying clients which I usually do pretty well with: Tip #3 is the number one reason that I don’t turn an inquiry into a paying client.

Kevin got me to thinking about the things that I do which lead to this blog post: “The Closer” – 9 Tips To Help You Close More Photography Business. I hope the tips below will help you in your business whether you are a photographer or not because the tips can really apply to virtually any business.

Tip #1
Be Responsive – Return Calls and Emails as quickly as possible. Answer calls personally when possible.

Tip #2
Let Your Passion Shine Through – When you love what you do, people can hear it in your voice and see it in your actions.

Tip #3
Don’t Be The Lowest Price – Being the lowest price only sets you up for failure. Even if you do photography part-time, don’t make it your goal to be the lowest price. If you are trying to build a portfolio, you might be better off saying, “I would normally charge “X” to shoot this (not the lowest price in town), but I’d be willing to shoot this at no charge to expand my portfolio.” The other option is saying, “I would normally charge “X” to shoot this (not the lowest price in town), but I’d be willing discount this to help you out.” With both options, the client knows that your regular price is “X.” Also, let them know that this is a one time offer, so if they refer friends and family to remember that your price is “X.” You don’t want to open the flood gates with FREE or DISCOUNTS.

Tip #4
Specialize – Don’t be a jack of all trades. Shooting Weddings, Newborns and Corporate really are 3 different specialties. For example, if you are currently shooting newborns but want to start shooting corporate: 1) Are you willing to sign long contracts? 2) Do you have liability coverage to be able to send a certificate of insurance? 3) Do you mind waiting 30 days to get paid? That’s just a few quick things to think about not counting that shooting newborns and a CEO are two different things. I let people know when they contact me that I TRULY SPECIALIZE in the Corporate Photography segment. Most corporate clients appreciate that.

Tip #5
Get Results – No matter what type of photography you do, are you able to get the results that your client base is after? You should be! So share those results with new inquiries. Tell them stories about past projects.

Tip #6
Share Your Experience – This ties into the last part of get results above. You need to share your experience with potential callers. Yes, it’s easier if you have been doing photography for years and have lots to share. However, if you are new, share what you have and don’t say that you have only being doing this for 90 days.

Tip #7
Be Confident – If you are confident at what you do and you should be, make sure the client can tell that you are confident. Confidence will come more over time but even a newbie with a few projects completed can be very confident about his or her work.

Tip #8
Do More Than Expected – One of the things that I do for corporate clients is to scope out the location in advance of the shoot. That’s one way that I can go above and beyond what they might be expecting. I tell the potential client that in my communication with them if it is appropriate for the type of shoot they are considering me for.

Tip #9
Keep It Simple – Don’t have a system that takes a rocket scientist to figure out especially when it comes to your pricing model. The more you complicate things the more you are putting barriers up for your potential clients to have to overcome.

The post Marketing Monday: “The Closer” – 9 Tips To Help You Close More Photography Business first appeared on .
